Ironclad Tactics is a fast-paced and tactic game with a card-based gameplay created by Zachtronics Industry, in which you will need to complete different missions in an alternative reality fiction with robots during the American Civil War. This indie game will take you to the story of Joseph and Maxwell, who created the Ironclad robots and who will have to fight against these same mechanic units that the Confederate forces already own.
The graphical aspect of Ironclad Tactics is pretty simple, but it counts with charming character models designed as if they were cartoons, an aspect that makes the game to look funny. The sound effects are good, and you will have constantly the sound of metal robots being shot. Although Ironclad Tactics is technically quite simple, it can fulfill your expectations with loads of funny hours thanks to its gameplay. One of the greatest points mentioned by users is that it doesn’t include microtransactions. It is also considered a fully-illustrated interactive graphic novel especially when you follow the campaign story.
As we mentioned before, Ironclad Tactics is a card-based game, so it means you will need cards to face your opponents. First of all, you will be handed a deck which you will configure as you want to have your units on the battlefield. Each card can be either units or attacks among other functions, so you will depend on AP points to perform actions. Taking this in mind, the player will feel free to create the strategy better and deck-building fits to finish the battles.
In Ironclad Tactics, the player has to deploy and control a huge number of humans and ironclads using the actions determined by its five-card hand. This video game is turn-based, which means that each player has some time before resolving all actions in his turn. Feel free to take your time choosing the best strategy, but you have to be conscious that the provided time is not too long for being more realistic.
You will start with three cards and later a new card will be automatically added each turn with a limit of five. Remember that if you don’t use one card in five turns it will be discarded! If you want to play a card, it will cost a concrete number of the so-called ‘Action Points’ (AP) to play. Cards are divided at the same time into four categories: ironclad units, human troops, tactics and parts to equip on ironclads. Most of the ironclad units can be equipped with additional parts such as armor or weapons which can help you in combat.
